Fool's Progress

10/365

Work is a comedy of errors, none of your own doing, but still your mess to clean. After work, you can't get out of your own way. Checking out at the grocery store you can't find your debit card. You eventually return with your check book. Pay. And leave it at the grocery store.

You just want to escape. Hit the open road. Open country. I can't, so I let Edward Abbey do it for me.

Fool's Progress.

  1. What a great passage by Edward Abbey.

After reading, I couldn't help but think of my last hike I went on recently to Mt. Tire'm.

While on my way up the mountain, I was almost frustrated because at 5:30am I was still hearing noises of buzzing cars.

Eventually, the further I got to the top the mountain the noises stopped. A refreshing sound of silence... allows my mind to go blank. No worries, no thoughts, and no fears.

The crisp fresh air energizing my body and a solitude often asked for, but so hard to find in today’s society. Personally, I like to often remove myself from twentieth century man and go back in time (if you will) every so often to refresh the soul.

Interestingly, while at the top and enjoying the pure silence being atop a mountain offers. I heard a tick, tick, tick. What is that noise? First, I thought maybe my watch? No, it was a dried up leaf blowing back and forth in-between two branches. I smiled and realized how I love open country!
